Little Houses for the Homeless
Coolest thing ever! I stopped off at the Market Building one day in 2016 and had a great chat with Pat McPherren, Facilities Manager for Joppa, a homeless outreach organization. I'd been drawn by the tiny house tucked beside their building at Joppa headquarters. Not only have they embraced the tiny house movement, they're putting it to good use in serving the homeless population. They're planning tiny villages like you see popping up across the globe and are determined to impact public policy to remove zoning barriers.

In 2017 Drake University teamed with a contractor to build 3 more tiny homes, moving Joppa closer to their mission, and to draw attention to the cause. The short video below shows some of the work being done on a campus parking lot at 26th & University. -DR
